‘Colonial/Racial Histories, National Narratives And Transnational Migration’
University of Helsinki, Finland

Marta Padovan-Özdemir, Eleonora Narvselius and Fran Lloyd convened two workshops sessions, entitled ‘Let’s Make it Home: What Critical Storytelling and Visual Arts-based Methodologies Offer’, to present and discuss different forms of critical storytelling (Bell 2018; Delgado og Stefancic 2017) and visual art methodologies that can contribute to the rewriting narratives of belonging, community and history from multi-disciplinary perspectives. The first workshop presented and discussed methodologies developed in the MaHoMe project that, working with NGOs and migrants as co-researchers, include participatory aesthetic methods to directly engage with migrant expressions and experiences of home and home-making in the context of recent histories of migration and the politics and policies of integration in Denmark, Sweden and the UK.

The second workshop centred on presentations from the open call by artist and activist Amir Zainorin, Jambatan-collective,
Copenhagen, Denmark; Julie Nynne Bune, PhD student, Department of Anthropology, Aarhus University; Sari Tuuva-Hongisto, Juvenia -Youth research and development centre, South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences and Søren Sindberg Jensen, Postdoc. PhD Department for the Study of Culture, The University of Southern Denmark.
